About the event

Join us for SobrieTease, a sober variety show in Portland, Oregon serving sparkling entertainment without the hangover. Let's celebrate the good things in life and create a fun, supportive nightlife environment free from substance use.

This event features performances by sober and sober-curious burlesque, drag, circus, and other kinds of performing artists.

Why should you sponsor?

SobrieTease is the first and only substance-free adult entertainment in Portland, Oregon. Alcohol consumption rates are down across America with 44% fully abstaining and those who do drink are drinking less, according to a recent Gallup pole. The nightlife industry is pivoting by adding more non-alcoholic options, and many adults are opting to meet up in third-spaces as opposed to bars.

Who Engages With Us?

Our venue - the Hallowed Halls - has a venue capacity of 150 and is ages 18 and up. Based on prior show attendance and social media audience engagement of the producer, we anticipate the audience to be 60-70% female ages 25 - 44. We have an online reach of 300,000+ over 90 days on Instagram and are continuing to build our website presence with 6k viewers annually.

How Does The Money Help Us?

Your monetary contribution to SobrieTease supports the sustainability of our production, which provides a paid opportunity for sober/recovering/sober-curious Portland performing artists to showcase their art in a trigger-free environment.

Funds are used to pay performers and crew, employ ASL interpreters for accessibility, purchase neccessary supplies, cover show-specific expenses (such as the venue, marketing materials/ads, and craft services), as well as cover overhead production expenses (administrative, insurance, and legal consulting fees).

Ultimately, we need sponsorships and underwriters to so we can pay our working artists their worth and make our ticket prices more affordable for folks in recovery who may not have discretionary income.

Sara James

My name is Sara James; I am an aerial + burlesque performer and instructor in Portland, Oregon and producer of Dare and Derriere. In my time in the Portland nightlife industry, I have met with many extremely talented performers who choose sobriety in a world surrounded by alcohol and other substances. As a person with family who struggles with addiction, I have been very cautious about my own use. My mother is an alcoholic who has been sober now for 15 years. My brother is an alcoholic and a drug-user - after struggling to get clean for over 15 years, he has now celebrated 5 years in recovery, due in large part to his involvement with sober-living facilities. Their addictions very much impacted me in my youth and early adulthood. I am motivated to produce SobrieTease in order to celebrate their success and to help performers who are navigating their nightlife careers and sobriety.
