Our Story: 52 Years of Community, Opportunity, and Determination

H.E.R.S. Softball began in 1974 with a simple but powerful mission: to give girls the opportunity to play softball, develop their skills, build friendships, and learn the value of teamwork and sportsmanship. What started as a local recreational league has grown into an organization that has served generations of families and continues to make a difference in the lives of young athletes.

Today, 52 years later, we are proud to carry that legacy forward through our recreational league and H.E.R.S. Elite program. H.E.R.S. Elite provides additional opportunities for athletes to develop their abilities, build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, and compete at a higher level.

For our players, softball is more than a sport. It is a place where they belong, where they are encouraged to grow, and where they learn that hard work and perseverance can open doors.

Why We Need Your Support

Behind every team, uniform, tournament, and maintained field is an organization working tirelessly to make these opportunities possible. As a community-based nonprofit, the financial burden of keeping our league running has become increasingly difficult. The costs of equipment, uniforms, tournament fees, field maintenance, umpire expenses, and player development continue to rise.

We are reaching out to potential sponsors because we are desperately working to secure the funding needed to keep our league strong and accessible. Outside support is becoming essential to our ability to sustain and grow our programs.

We do not want financial limitations to take away opportunities from the girls who love this game. Our athletes deserve safe fields, proper equipment, team uniforms, competitive experiences, and the chance to continue building memories and friendships through softball.

Nichole Kus

My name is Niki Kus, and H.E.R.S. Softball has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. For me, H.E.R.S. is more than a softball league. It is my childhood, my family, my passion, and a legacy that I have dedicated years of my life to preserving for the next generation of girls.

My journey with H.E.R.S. began when I was just four years old. I grew up playing in this program, creating memories, learning the game, and experiencing firsthand what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself. Eventually, I aged out of the program, but my love for H.E.R.S. never faded. Little did I know that the league that gave me so much as a child would one day become something I would fight to keep alive for my own children and countless others.

When I had my daughters, I knew exactly where I wanted their softball journeys to begin. Both of my girls started playing H.E.R.S. at the age of four, just as I had. I wanted them to experience the same excitement, friendships, confidence, and lifelong memories that softball gave me. Watching them step onto the field for the first time was more than a proud-parent moment. It was watching a new generation become part of a tradition that means so much to me.

But my involvement didn't stop at being a softball mom.

For the past 11 years, I have dedicated myself to coaching girls and helping them grow, both on and off the field. Ten years ago, I took another step by joining the H.E.R.S. commission, where my commitment to this organization grew even stronger. Over the years, I have coached numerous teams each season, sometimes coaching girls whose families I had only just met and sometimes stepping up to coach teams that didn't include my own daughters.

Why? Because those girls deserved the opportunity to play.

I have continued coaching even when my daughters weren't on the team because I believe every girl who wants to play softball deserves someone willing to show up for her. Every girl deserves a coach who believes in her, a team where she belongs, and a place where she can learn that mistakes are part of growing, hard work matters, and confidence can be built one inning at a time.

That is what H.E.R.S. has always meant to me.
