Every Bucket Counts Charity,

Markham, Ontario, Canada Markham, Ontario, Canada

  • About the event

Every Bucket Counts: 3v3 Charity Basketball Tournament

Every Bucket Counts is a 3v3 half-court basketball tournament in Markham this winter break (late December 2026), organized by Tarun Vick and Solomon Francis in support of the Markham Food Bank.

    Why we’re doing it
The need in Markham has never been higher. The number of people relying on the Markham Food Bank has grown 149% since 2020, and in December 2025 alone they served 2,433 Markham residents. We wanted to do something about it, so we’re bringing our community together the way we know best: on the court.

    The event

    • Up to 16 teams of 3–4 players, with every team guaranteed at least 3 games
    • Pool play followed by playoffs and a championship game, with cash prizes for the winners
    • Held at an indoor gym in Markham, with around 100 players, families and spectators
    • Every player brings a non-perishable food item to donate
    • All proceeds after costs go directly to the Markham Food Bank

    Who you’ll reach
Young people, local players, families and community members from across Markham and York Region. The event is promoted on Instagram, through local schools and community groups, on posters around Markham, and on our website.

    Why sponsor
Sponsors cover our event costs, so player entry fees go directly to the Food Bank instead of to a gym rental. In return, your business is seen by local families and young people as one that shows up for Markham when it matters most. Every sponsor receives photos from the day and a final report of money raised and food collected.

    Our experience
We’ve organized basketball team events before, so we know how to run a smooth, organized and fun day from tip-off to the final buzzer.

    Why should you sponsor?

    1. Your business becomes part of something that matters
Food insecurity in Markham has grown 149% since 2020, and the Markham Food Bank served 2,433 residents in December 2025 alone. Your sponsorship covers our event costs, so player entry fees go directly to feeding local families instead of to a gym rental. Your business gets the credit for making that happen.

    2. Get seen by local customers
Your business will reach young people, families and community members from across Markham and York Region, at the event and through our promotion:

    • Your logo on our event poster, displayed around Markham at community centres, schools, gyms and local businesses
    • Your logo on our event website
    • Shoutouts and dedicated posts on our Instagram
    • Your logo on the event banner, where it shows up in every photo and video from the day

    3. Positive, feel-good exposure
The event is all about community, youth sports and fighting hunger during the holidays. Customers remember the businesses that show up for their community, and sponsoring a local charity event builds trust in a way regular ads can’t.

    4. Real moments with the community
Depending on your package, you can present the cash prize to the winning team, name an award or the half-court challenge after your business, or have your own table at the event to meet people face to face.

    5. Content you can use
After the event, every sponsor receives photos from the day and a final report of how much money and food was raised for the Markham Food Bank, ready to share on your own social media and website.

    6. Run by a reliable team
We’ve organized basketball team events before, and we’re working directly with the Markham Food Bank. You can count on an organized, professional event, and on us delivering everything we promise.

    Tarun Vicknakumar

My name is Tarun Vick, and I’m a high school student in Markham who is passionate about helping others and giving back to my community. I’m organizing Every Bucket Counts with my co-organizer, Solomon Francis.

Basketball has always been a big part of our lives. Together, Solomon and I have run a South Asian basketball team that we used to raise awareness in our community, and we’ve played in many tournaments ourselves. Through all of it, we’ve seen how basketball can bring people together and make a real difference.

Now it’s our turn to give back. When we learned how many families in Markham are struggling to put food on the table, with a 149% increase in people relying on the Markham Food Bank since 2020, we knew we wanted to use the game we love to help.

    Why you can trust us

    • We have experience organizing and running a basketball team, and we know how tournaments work from the inside as players.
    • We’re working directly with the Markham Food Bank, and we have their support to promote the event.
    • We’re committed to being transparent: every sponsor will receive photos from the day and a full report of how much money and food we raised.
    • We take every commitment to our sponsors seriously, and we’ll deliver everything we promise.

We’d be proud to have your business join us in making this winter a little easier for families in Markham.
